OSBI overwhelmed with gun license requests | News
The OSBI says it has been asked why it is taking so long to process gun licenses in the state.
Processing applications for gun licenses used to take about 52 days but has now slowed to about 97 days.
Authorities say initial license applications and renewals have dramatically increased over the past year.
The OSBI has hired more employees and added a temporary night shift to get caught up on all the paperwork.
Authorities say the increase in applications may be because of Senate Bill 1733, which makes it legal for SDA license holders to openly carry handguns.
The state currently has 127,445 active approved license holders.
