Governor Mary Fallin adds more cities to State of Emergency

Monday afternoon Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin met with reporters to discuss the Moore, Oklahoma, tornado.

Fallin vowed to do everything in her power to get out all available resources to those areas hardest hit.

Sunday the Governor signed a Federal emergency declaration for 16 Oklahoma counties.

Monday she added another five counties that will allow our state to access additional funding and purchases for recovery and rebuilding efforts.

Fallin said she has been in direct contact with FEMA as well as President Barack Obama who offered his condolences and offering up Federal resources.

Tuesday Governor Fallin will fly over the damage with the Oklahoma National Guard.

About 80 guard members secured the perimeters and helping highway patrol with traffic congestion.

Her office is also working with the Red Cross, Salvation Army, to get food and supplies out to those who have lost their homes.

UPDATE: 24 killed in Moore tornado, 9 children

MOORE, Okla. – The medical examiner’s office has confirmed 24 people were killed in the Moore tornado Monday.

Amy Ellis with the M.E.’s office said 9 of those killed are children.

She said seven children were found at Plaza Towers elementary school and two more were found elsewhere.

Ellis said that number could continue to rise.

The medical examiner’s office confirmed at least 233 people have been injured but 101 people were pulled from the damage overnight.

The tornado claimed an unconfirmed number of children at Moore’s Plaza Towers Elementary.

Also among those killed, a family of four with a baby near 4th St. and Telephone Rd. in Moore.

Officials said the family tried to take shelter in a freezer.

MOORE, Okla. – A tornado over two miles wide ravaged Moore, Oklahoma, Monday afternoon.

The Twister damaged or destroyed over 30 square miles, according to very preliminary estimates.

The tornado traveled over 20 miles.

Moore man survives tornado in horse stall

MOORE, Okla. – A man rode out the over two-mile wide Moore tornado in a horse stall Monday afternoon.

The man said his knowledge gained from living in Oklahoma was what saved his life.

He was outside when suddenly everything went quiet.

He said that is when you know something is going to happen and you better take cover.

The Moore resident works and lives on a horse ranch and hid in a horse stall during the tornado.

He said he thinks maybe only one of their horses survived the twister.

Lost Bible discovered in tornado debris, returned

SHAWNEE, Okla. — The buzz of chain saws is a welcome symphony in Pottawatomie County Monday, the day after a deadly tornado ripped through Shawnee.

Lance Carter weathered the storm in his neighbors basement.

When he emerged, his home and five acre property of 17 years were almost unrecognizable.

He is still shell-shocked.

“I’m walking around in a daze. I don’t know what to do. I go to do one thing then somebody asks me about something else.” said Carter.

The tornado that his Carter’s home ripped across Highway 177 in northwest Shawnee.

Carter’s property took a direct hit.

Two victims confirmed dead in Shawnee tornado outbreak

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Authorities have confirmed two elderly men are dead following Sunday’s tornado outbreak across Oklahoma.

The victims are Glen Irish, 79, and Billy Hutchinson, 76, both of Shawnee.

The most damaging system spawned tornadoes in Cleveland County and Pottawatomie County.

The tornado decimated the Twin Lake Trailer Park in Shawnee.

Dozens of people lost their homes when the tornado destroyed the trailer park.

Many missing pets were still roaming the area Monday morning, searching for their owners.

Governor Mary Fallin has declared a state of emergency for 16 counties including Oklahoma County, Cleveland County and Pottawatomie County.

At least 21 storm-related injuries have been reported.
